The City of Frederick Department of Economic Development strives to increase economic opportunity for Frederick by supporting & promoting a community where businesses and residents can thrive. DED's mission is achieved through a focus on four strategic priorities. 1. Job Creation The 3,400+ businesses located within the City of Frederick currently provide approximately 49,000 jobs. However, with 90,000 potential workers living within a 15 minute drive of the City and population growth anticipated to continue at a rate of 4% through 2020, increasing local employment opportunities is critical to sustaining our vibrant, community-centered City. 2. Business Infrastructure Advocacy Businesses rely deeply on local systems of communication, transportation, sewage, water and electric. Maintaining the efficiency and reliability of this framework gives businesses the ability to succeed in Frederick. As a particular point of emphasis, access to strategic roadways, railways, and runways - such as I-270, I-70, the MARC Train Line, and the Frederick Municipal Airport - has historically been and continues to be a key differentiator in economic attraction and retention for the City. 3. Downtown Revitalization Downtown Frederick uniquely boasts a living, breathing historic district. The beautiful, two-and-a-half-century-old streets lay stage to a booming business sector and a thriving arts & entertainment scene. Initiatives such as the Carroll Creek Park, Main Street programming, and Downtown Hotel attraction, seek to honor and continue Frederick's long tradition of vitality. 4. Corridor Revitalization Though the iconic parks and streets of the downtown district frequently dominate Frederick's imagery, the City's limits extend much wider -- encompassing a nearly 25 square mile area of significantly contributing resources and businesses. Within these boundaries, the Golden Mile Area and East Frederick Corridor have been identified as important commercial growth opportunities.

Last week The City of Frederick's mayor joined the Economic Development team as we toured three businesses based at Fairview Center on 7th Street. Visiting Angels is an international network of franchised agencies that are committed to providing families with the best possible in-home care services. The locally owned and operated Visiting Angels Frederick maintains an impressive team of caregivers who provide services to more than 100 senior and disable individuals across Frederick. Just floors away, Abuzz Healthcare Services offers certified nursing assistants, personal care attendants, and companions to meet the diverse medical and cultural needs of clients. The company’s commitment to thoroughly screening potential caregivers uniquely led to a second business branch onsite, Abuzz Fingerprinting Services. Our final visit took us to Healing Touch Chiropractic which provides natural chiropractic care for all ages. The practice, which is nearing its 10th anniversary in Frederick, works to help people experience health through their body’s own healing mechanisms. Precision For Medicine, a biomarker-driven clinical research company supporting life sciences companies, celebrated the completion of a major expansion to its laboratory campus in The City of Frederick earlier this week. Now encompassing over 116,000 square feet at St. John Properties, Inc.'s Riverside Tech Park, the new facility offers significantly increased capacity and scale across both biorepository and laboratory services, with particular focus on cell and gene therapy, oncology and viral research. Ayoka,’ which is used as a greeting in the Ivory Coast, is a fitting welcome to this new Frederick business! Ayoka African Cuisine celebrated the official opening of its doors today at 1100 W Patrick Street, Suite M. While not technically related, the duo behind the new restaurant have been like sisters since they met 10 years ago in the United States. One loves to cook, and the other loves to eat – they say they were the perfect fit! Engage USA celebrates the official grand opening of its new fulfillment center at 200 Monroe Ave! Engage USA is a Frederick-based database management company that specializes in fundraising campaigns. The company– which offers direct mailing, lockbox, and caging services- works with a wide variety of clients, including nationwide non-profits, charities, and political campaigns. The 40,000 SF space is a relocation of the fulfilment center previously based nearby at Highland Street. The new, efficiently designed workflow will provide Engage USA with the capability to optimize their production and continue to grow. Happy 125th to Woodsboro Bank! While, as the name suggests, its roots are in the Town of Woodsboro – over the past century & a quarter Woodsboro Bank has become a staple of the wider Frederick community. Today, the bank hosts three branches across The City of Frederick: Rt. 40 Branch – Golden Mile, Monocacy Branch – East St. and Downtown Frederick Branch at 6 W Patrick Street.
