Updates

  • Curtis Wilbern conducted field training on illicit stormwater discharge and outfall inspections for local MS4 coordinators at Middletown Borough’s Hoffer Park recently.  Curtis and the coordinators looked at stormwater outfalls of different shapes and sizes along the Swatara Creek in both Middletown and Royalton Borough, including one located under the historic Frey Grist Mill (originally built in 1785, rebuilt in 1874, and now serving as apartments). They reviewed techniques for identifying potential sources of pollution and proper water quality sampling techniques. Thank you to Middletown Borough and their public works department for hosting this event.

  • Ben Gilberti is celebrating his 20th year as a member of HRG’s team, and we want to wish him the happiest of anniversaries. Ben joined HRG as an intern before officially being hired as an entry level staff professional in our civil group and became the Pittsburgh group manager in 2016.  Over the years, he’s grown into a great leader and friend. James Feath, Kara L S., Daniel Angelo, Daniel Barna, and Kristen Vasilakis, share their thoughts on working with Ben below. Please join us in congratulating him on this career milestone and thanking him for his contributions to HRG.

    • Photo of Dan Angelo wearing a charcoal grey zip-up fleece with a quote from him: "Ben is a great manager and the type of leader that treats his coworkers and clients with respect. He encourages his employees to be the leaders that they want to be and facilitates their growth. Congratulations on your 20-year anniversary here at HRG, Ben, and thank you!"
    • Photo of Kristen Vasilakis wearing a black scoop-neck blouse with cap sleeves and a gold cross necklace. A quote appears next to her face: "It has been a privilege to train under Ben as an engineer in the Pittsburgh Civil Group. His patience, guidance, and support have been instrumental in my growth as a professional at HRG. Congratulations, Ben, on your 20-year anniversary, and thank you for all that you do."
    • Photo of Jim Feath wearing a blue button-down shirt and navy sport coat. Text on the image says "Ben is a unique manager that is equal parts creative, cunning, and caring. He has a big heart and is the first to lend a hand or drop a box of food at a doorstep when a co-worker is wiped out with the virus of the month. He is a great colleague, manager, and friend."
    • Photo of Kara Smith wearing a white t-shirt and denim jacket. A quote from her says "Ben cares so much about his staff, the quality of his work, being a good leader, and building strong relationships with his clients. His passion for work is infectious, and he truly cares about helping communities grow and thrive."
    • Photo of Dan Barna wearing a white button-down shirt with a gray-ish blue grid print. The photo is paired with a quote: "Working with Ben has been a fantastic experience. He is a great engineer and a great person. He has been a huge part of making not only the civil group, but the entire company so successful for the last 20 years. I look forward to working with him and learning from him for many years to come."
  • Construction is underway for a new elementary school in Bethel Park. The site will include a learning courtyard, nature walk, and loading dock as well as playground areas for two age groups. It also includes a new access from Kings School Road, separate bus and parent access zones, and parking areas. HRG assisted with site layout and grading, utility plans, landscape design, and roadway design. We also prepared a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, stream and wetland delineation, sewer planning modules, and a traffic impact study. We are currently assisting with construction administration. Massaro Construction Management Services, LLC is the construction manager, and they graciously shared these photos with us of the progress being made. We’re excited to see this project come to life and be a part of this excellent team: DRAW Collective (architect) Tower Engineering (MEP) Barber & Hoffman, Inc. (structural engineering) Food Facilities Concepts (food service)   Rycon Construction, Inc. Construction (general contractor) Hranec Corporation Corp. (HVAC) Enders Plumbing (plumbing) Interstate (fire protection) Merit Electrical Group (electrical) Bova Corp (food service equipment)

  • Congratulations to Steven Harmon, and Jacob Hoffman for passing their Professional Engineer exam!   Steven is an assistant project manager in our civil group who helps clients with the design of stormwater management facilities, grading, and site layout. He contributes valuable knowledge about construction to our projects, thanks to several years of experience working with a construction company before joining HRG.   Jacob is a staff professional in our civil group who reviews subdivision, land development, and stormwater management plans for our municipal clients; designs stormwater management facilities; assists with permitting; and performs construction observation services.   Let’s put our hands together for Steven, Jacob, and everyone else who recently received word that they passed their PE exam. 👏 We’re so happy for you!

  • HRG helped three of our clients obtain more than $760,000 in grants from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission’s Consumptive Use Mitigation Grant program in the latest round of funding announced this week! The program supports projects that promote drought resiliency and improve water quality in the 27,000+ square mile Susquehanna River Basin (which stretches from New York through Pennsylvania into Maryland). Our Strategic Management & Capital Solutions team does a great job of helping clients match their projects with available funding programs and position their grant application for success. All three applications we helped to submit received funding awards. Thank you, team, and congratulations to our clients: Lower Paxton Township, Londonderry Township, and the Borough of Freeland Municipal Authority. We’re happy to help you move these projects forward. Click through the slides below to learn more about the projects and the benefits they’ll provide.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you to our clients and our amazing employee-owners! HRG climbed 35 places to its highest ever ranking on the ENR Top 500 Design Firms list this year. The ranking is based on annual design revenues reported by architecture, engineering, and construction firms across the nation, and HRG grew its revenues by more than 20 percent over the previous year. This growth wouldn’t be possible without the loyalty and trust our clients have for us and the dedicated service our team members provide. Thank you all so much. It’s a pleasure working together for the betterment of our communities, and recognition like this is icing on a very sweet cake.

    • Text graphic in HRG's brand colors (burgundy, teal, and light blue). Text says: HRG is Moving Up. Our highest ranking ever on the ENR Top 500 Design Firms list.
