An inclusive community of people with & without disabilities sharing life together.

About us

In L'Arche, people with and without intellectual disabilities share life and friendships in a community strengthened by faith. We believe in a world where differences are celebrated and everyone belongs. Through social events and our unique model of community living, we contribute to a more inclusive, loving world. As members of the International Federation of L’Arche, our shared mission is to create communities where the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities are revealed through mutually transforming relationships; to embrace diverse cultures working together to build a more human society; and to respond to the changing needs of our members throughout a lifetime of adult care. L'Arche Frederick has built an inclusive community around social events since 2012. Next, we are opening the first L'Arche home in Maryland! Our unique model of care unites adults with IDD and live-in assistants in homes where everyone chooses to live together. The Core Members (adults with disabilities) receive support from Assistants (direct support professionals) in all aspects of daily living based on their specific needs. Together, they contribute to a family-like environment that incorporates shared responsibilities, mutual relationships, and access to community services. While providing needed housing and support services, L’Arche also offers much more: we are a community that supports each other, whether we live with the experiences of IDD or not, through daily joys and challenges.
